August Flash Fashion show

I can't believe the August Flash Fashion show has already been organized, executed and is being posted all over the place. Whew. Just one more show for this Summer and then the Winter plans can start.
The models were wonderful as usual. Four models were newly met and three of them I met on the day of the show. They (and I) had no idea what their outfits would be. They chose wisely and changed in the Market House restrooms ( after buying some food and drink for sustenance)
The whole thing was a whirlwind as usual and a pleasing surprise as usual. The crowd was not too bad considering the outrageous heat and humidity at 7 PM..

And so- The Photos

Flash Fashion hits the Artwalk for July

All the models say "Cheese"

Whitney and Lani both elegant in very different styles

Irish linen tunic with applique detail

Bea in avocado green and dusty blue

Rickie's dress -two shirts make the bodice.
Four sleeves make the skirt

Cornflower blue top, checked waistband and swingy skirt

Elise in black and white polka-dots.
The skirt is smocked at the waist
and the bodice is a bathing suit top
with added applique for a bustier look.

Black top dress with white piping and attached
polka dot skirt with mill-end fabric angled hem.
It's all pulled together with a black and white cumberbund.

Many thanks to the set-up crew.
The golden catwalk wouldn't exist without you.

The Maine dress has it all.
Owl tank with attached panelled skirt sporting pinecones
and the logo for the Fryeburg Fair.

The crowd looks pleased.

Once again RickRack Upcycled presented it's ever popular Flash Fashion show at Portland's First Friday Artwalk. Only 9 models this time around but plenty enough since we do the runway several times for the Artwalk crowd as they wander past. The weather was perfect for our show and folks seemed content to stop and check out the newest upcycled clothing styles.

WMPG Fashion show

Forgot to add this to my list of Spring activities. WMPG is the University of Southern Maine's radio station and has a fashion show every year. Local designers show their latest work. I was lucky enough to have a terrific model to show off my clothes.

Portland Flea for All

The other news is that RickRack now has a steady selling venue. Two very brave and ambitious folks started a craft and flea market in Portland this Spring. Portland Flea for All is a great spot to spend some weekend time. From furniture and homegoods to records, vintage clothing and all manner of beautiful hand-crafts. They are in a fantastic space on the corner of Elm St. and Kennebec, near Bayside Bowl, Trader Joe's and Marginal Way. Stop by any Saturday or Sunday 10-5 and enjoy. RickRack will be there every Sunday.

Flash Fashion June 2012

Vintage Ship and Shore blouse remade with tee sleeves to soften the silhouette. Skirt is a refashioned tee skirt with scrap trim.

Lois is nothing short of beautiful

Susan has a multi-stripe and floral hoodie dress with a calendar teatowel bag.

Dad and model check out the crowd.

Don't know what I was saying, but it must have been good. Former and future model Nicole seems to be taking it all in.

This gives a real sense of the varied clothing that comes out of the upcycling experience. No question each piece is one of a kind, as are my models.

Blogging Again

Okay, it's been a long stretch without a word from RickRack. I kind of lost steam last Fall and then lost my ritual of writing.
Fresh page and lots of news.
First off RickRack started our second year of Flash Fashion shows at Portland's Artwalk. June was a scramble as I didn't think I would do the shows this year. The thing that changed my mind, you may ask? Requests! Suddenly it seemed that no matter where I went, people would say they were looking forward to this year's shows or they had heard about them and planned to catch at least one this Summer. Clearly I needed to rethink my plans. Not many photos but definitely a taste of the fun.
